A Police strike in the Brazilian state of Espírito Santo, leaving 30 cities completely unarmed and in a state of criminal anarchy.
Netizens posted violent videos to social media with the tag #PrayForEspíritoSanto and compared the rampage to scenes from “The Purge.”
The homicide rate has skyrocketed by 650 percent. Federal troops have been sent in to keep the peace and lawmakers have declared the police strikes illegal.
Still, police leadership has threatened to take the strikes nationwide if salary freezes and benefit cuts continue.
But many states are facing billion-dollar debts. They may have no choice but to cut back on public salaries and pensions.
Is this the future of Brazil?
