The Baía do Sancho beach in northeastern Brazil has received the best beach award for the second year running. The Atlantic paradise beat out beaches from Turkey, the Philippines, and Puerto Rico.
Located on the Fernando de Noronha islands in Pernambuco state, it’s also the only Brazilian beach to make it into the top ten. The Baía do Sancho, with its soft, untouched sand, has an exclusive feel to it – at least for now. Visitors can also climb the surroundings to get to the neighboring beach, Baía dos Porcos. Or, tourists can opt to take a boat ride around the islands.
However, Brazil does boast 7 of the top 10 beaches in South America. Other top Brazilian beaches in the region included Praia da Pipa and Praia dos Carneiros.
TripAdvisor announced its annual list of users’ favorite beaches on Thursday. The “Traveler’s Choice Awards” records the preferences of users who have visited the beaches within the last year.
Vamos a la playa
Other favorite beaches around the world are Playa Paraíso in Cuba, Isola del Canigli in Sicily, and WhiteHaven Beach in Australia. In South America, the only non-Brazilian beaches to crack the top ten were: Anakena, Ilha de Páscoa, Chile (10th place), Praia de Galápagos, Equador (9th), and Cayo de Agua, Los Roques, Venezuela (2nd).
But Brazilians know their beaches are the best!
