After losing 0-1 against Argentina, Brazilian coach Tite decided to change 8 starters for Brazil’s Tuesday game against Australia. But no, Tite is not hitting the panic button after losing his first match. Instead, the Brazilian manager wants to observe more players through the next 11 months, before selecting the squad that will play in the 2018 World Cup.
According to Tite, his “sense of justice” was the main reason behind the changes. “If I don’t give them the chance to play, how would I fell about it? Now, I’ll be able to judge them and avoid making mistakes [regarding the chosen players],” said Tite.
Besides the game against Australia’s Socceroos, Brazil will only have eight games before the World Cup. There are four games left in the South American Qualifiers, and four friendly matches. Since Brazil has already clinched its World Cup spot, Tite can afford the luxury of experimenting different squads and formations.
“Even in friendly games, players must play like it was a decisive match. And I can observe who does that,” said Tite.
Brazil’s starting lineup
From the team that started Friday’s match against Argentina, only Thiago Silva, Paulinho, and Philippe Coutinho will start again on Tuesday. Here are Brazil’s starters for Tuesday’s game:
Diego Alves, Rafinha, Thiago Silva, Rodrigo Caio, Alex Sandro; David Luiz; Paulinho, Coutinho, Giuliano, Douglas Costa; Diego Souza
