Dengvaxia, a vaccine against the dengue fever, will become available in private clinics in the state of São Paulo. The others states will receive the drug in the near future. It is the first vaccine available in Brazil, and will cost around $40.

According to Brazil’s Ministry of Health, there is no timetable for the vaccine to be distributed by the public health system. Nevertheless, the state of Paraná has announced a future purchase of 500,000 doses of the vaccine.

The vaccine was developed by French lab Sanofi-Pasteur, and have been approved by Brazilian health authorities in December 2015. Studies showed that the drug is capable of protecting 66 percent of people between 9 and 16 years old from the disease.
